U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin, a member of the Board of Visitors of the U.S. Naval Academy, issued the following statement about the appointment of Rear Admiral Michael H. Miller to be Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy.
“Founded in 1845, the U.S. Naval Academy gives young men and women the academic and leadership training needed to be effective naval and marine officers. The Superintendent of the Academy has an important responsibility to inculcate our leaders of tomorrow with a strong moral compass, keen intellectual insight and strong physical endurance.
“Rear Admiral Michael H. Miller is a much-decorated naval officer who has command and administrative experience. In his most recent role as Chief of Legislative Affairs, he has had daily contact with members of Congress and their staffs and is well acquainted with the strategic and international challenges facing our nation. Prior to that assignment, he commanded the USS Ronald Reagan Strike Group on deployment to the Personal Gulf and Pacific. I look forward to meeting with Rear Admiral Miller in the near future to discuss his new role as Superintendent of the Naval Academy and to ensure that our midshipmen receive the best education and training they will need for careers in the military.
