Since then, Mr. Elwell has volunteered more than 3,000 hours, and has served as the manager for the docent program.
“The Chesapeake Bay Laboratory is one of Maryland’s leading environmental institutions, working to establish best practices that will help protect and restore the Chesapeake Bay and our environment,” said
Senator Cardin, a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. “We are fortunate to have such an outstanding facility, which has become an important resource in efforts to improve the Bay.”
Founded in 1925, the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory is the oldest state-supported marine laboratory on the East Coast and has been associated with numerous landmark discoveries that serve as a foundation for many environmental practices currently used to preserve and protect the Chesapeake Bay. The Laboratory's mission has been to promote excellence in marine research and graduate education while sharing the results of ongoing exploration with the larger scientific community and citizens of Maryland.
