SENATOR CARDIN SUPPORTS BORDER SECURITY LEGISLATION
Urges Colleagues to Work for Comprehensive Reform to Address Problem of Illegal Immigration

Returning to Capitol Hill to preside over a special session of the Senate,
U.S.
Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD) today supported legislation that will
provide $600 million for 1,500 new border patrol agents and send additional monitoring and communications equipment to the Mexican border to help stem the flow of illegal immigrants and drugs.

Senator Cardin, chairman of the Terrorism and Homeland Security Subcommittee of the Judiciary Committee, called passage of today’s measure “an important step in the process. The legislation ensures the security of our nation’s borders, but now we must turn our attention to the more difficult task of passing comprehensive immigration reform.
Today, I urge my colleagues to work in a bipartisan way to take up that challenge — a challenge that the American people want us to address — and pass comprehensive reform.”
