WASHINGTON –
U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD) today praised the selection of Elizabeth Morgan as Superintendent of the Year by the American Association of School Administrators (AASA).
   Dr. Morgan is in her ninth year as Superintendent of Washington County Public Schools.

“Washington County students and teachers have benefitted from Dr. Morgan’s experience and leadership,” said
Senator Cardin. “Under her leadership, test scores have increased, graduation rates are up, and dropout rates have declined. Her focus on students and learning has made a real difference in the success and achievement of Washington County students.”

Washington County Public Schools serve 21,850 students, of which 41 percent qualify for the federal lunch program.
  Since becoming Superintendent of Washington County schools, Dr.
  Morgan has started one of the state’s few International Baccalaureate programs and spread magnet programs to all school levels.
  She previously was chief academic officer of the Baltimore City Public Schools.
  In November, she was named Superintendent of the Year by the Public School Superintendents Association of Maryland.
