WASHINGTON – The U.S. Senate has passed by unanimous consent a resolution introduced by U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD) honoring the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) on its 102 ^nd anniversary. The NAACP’s headquarters are located in Baltimore, MD.

 

“For 102 years, the NAACP has been an inspiration to all Americans who care about equality and social justice” said Senator Cardin. “Through non-violent action, the NAACP has used its moral force to achieve such victories as the end of school segregation in Brown v Board of Education and the passage of numerous pieces of legislation to ensure the civil rights of all Americans.”

 

U.S. Congressman Al Green (D-TX), who was president of the Houston Branch of the NAACP for 10 years, has introduced a similar resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives. 

 

“Through its 102 years of existence, the NAACP’s accomplishments have been numerous, ranging from the fight against segregation to securing voting rights for all Americans. The success of the NAACP is due in part to its judicial use of our legal system to promote civil debate and the use of first amendment rights to secure opportunity based on the character within, not the color of skin.  Ultimately, the NAACP advocates for equal access to the American Dream for all,” said Congressman Green.

 

In the Senate, the resolution was co-sponsored by: U.S. Senators Barbara A.
