MARYLAND’S U.S. SENATORS APPLAUD JUDICIARY COMMITTEE APPROVAL OF DAVIS AND PEREZ NOMINATIONS, URGE SWIFT VOTE BY FULL SENATE


WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Benjamin L. Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-MD) today praised Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) for swiftly moving the nominations of Marylanders Judge Andre M. Davis to be United States Circuit Judge for the Fourth Circuit and of Thomas E. Perez to be Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice through the confirmation process. The Senate Judiciary Committee today approved Judge Davis’ nomination 16 to 3 and Secretary Perez’s nomination 17 to 2. The full Senate will now consider the nominations.



 


“Judge Davis and Secretary Perez are highly qualified individuals and dedicated public servants. We look forward to their expeditious Senate confirmations,” Senators Mikulski and Cardin, a member of the Judiciary Committee, said in a joint statement.



 


Judge Davis currently serves as a U.S. District Judge for the District of Maryland. Secretary Perez currently serves as the Secretary of Labor, Licensing & Regulation for the State of Maryland.
