Cardin Welcomes Sarah Bloom Raskin To The Senate At Her Conformation To Be Deputy Secretary of the Treasury

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD), a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee was honored today to introduce Sarah Bloom Raskin to his colleagues on the Senate Finance Committee. Bloom Raskin has been nominated by President Obama to become the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury.

“I am pleased to say that this is not the first time I have introduced Sarah in connection with her nomination to an important position in public service.  In 2010, I spoke at Sarah’s nomination hearing for her current position on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Sarah’s deep financial and regulatory knowledge and sound judgment have made her an essential asset during her tenure the Federal Reserve.  During a time of great economic unease, her dedication to strong consumer protections has been especially valuable.”

“I have no doubt that Sarah’s extensive public service experience, her dedication, and her work ethic will serve her well in the Treasury — incidentally, as the highest-ranking woman in the history of the agency.  It gives me great confidence to know that Sarah will be handling the many responsibilities demanded of the Deputy Secretary.  And it gives me great pride that a fellow Marylander will continue to be among the financial leaders that guide our economy towards future growth and stability.”
