WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) released the following statement after a vote in the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee to advance the nomination of Linda McMahon to be the next Administrator of the Small Business Administration.

“As a United States Senator, I take seriously the Constitutional responsibility to provide Advice and Consent for executive branch nominees. I judge each individual on his or her own merits. I disagree with President Trump on nearly every issue, but I was pleasantly surprised by his nominee to head the Small Business Administration, Linda McMahon. Mrs. McMahon does not have the depth on issues that many of her predecessors brought to the SBA, but she clearly has a determination and the will to be a vocal advocate for America’s small businesses. She had no problems standing up to senators of both parties during her confirmation hearing and I believe she will stand up against policies that would hurt small businesses and America’s entrepreneurs.

“As a senior member of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, I will look to Mrs. McMahon to help disadvantaged, veteran- and women-owned businesses increase their share of prime contracts; prevent financial institutions from red lining minority entrepreneurs; improve SBA’s website and grow SBA’s entrepreneurship programs like the Veteran’s Institute for Procurement in Rockville, Maryland.”
