WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), after Republicans blocked consideration of legislation to create a bipartisan commission to examine the events of January 6 at the U.S. Capitol, urged his Republican colleagues to reconsider their vote.
“I strongly support and voted in favor of legislation to create a bipartisan, independent commission to investigate the January 6 domestic terrorism attack on the U.S. Capitol. It’s dispiriting that such a horrific breach was not met with immediate, bipartisan calls for investigation and analysis. We need this commission to produce an unbiased and impartial accounting of what triggered this deadly event, and to recommend reforms to improve security. Our nation depends on lawmakers who can set partisanship aside and put the future of our democracy at the forefront of their actions.”
