Cardin, Van Hollen, Raskin, Trone Announce over $653,000 for Road Repair in Frederick and Washington Counties

WASHINGTONU.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Congressmen Jamie Raskin and David Trone (all D-Md.) have announced $653,805 in federal funding for the Maryland State Highway Administration to reimburse repair work to fix damages to roads caused by the heavy rains and catastrophic flooding that hit parts of Frederick and Washington Counties in May and June 2018. Immediately after the severe weather events, the Maryland Congressional Delegation, led by Senators Cardin and Van Hollen, wrote two letters urging the President to support the state’s requests for a Presidential Disaster Declaration. These declarations made it possible for the state to receive this critical funding.

“Following severe weather, quickly repairing our infrastructure is crucial to allowing our communities and businesses to get back to work,” said the Members. “This funding will help reimburse the state’s efforts to do that, and we’re proud to secure federal support for this work. We will continue working to modernize our infrastructure and to improve Maryland’s ability to handle severe weather.”

These funds are awarded by the Department of Transportation and have been allocated for the repair and reconstruction of Federal-aid highways and roads on Federal lands that have suffered serious damage.
