CARDIN, VAN HOLLEN CHAMPION SUPPORT SERVICES FOR ADOPTIVE FAMILIES AND CHILDREN

BURTONSVILLE, MD —
U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin and
U.S. Congressman Chris Van Hollen (both D-MD) today visited the Center for Adoption Support & Education (C.A.S.E.) in Burtonsville to commend the center for its work in providing support services for foster care and adoptive families and children.
Both Senator Cardin and Congressman Van Hollen supported $250,000 in funding in the FY 2009 budget that made it possible for C.A.S.E. to open a satellite office in Frederick, MD in December 2009.

“Many adoptive families have a very unique set of challenges and C.A.S.E. has the experience and training to address their needs,” said
Senator Cardin.
“Children who have been in foster care and adopted often have mental health and other needs and C.A.S.E. provides Maryland families with a unique resource that can help make adoptions successful.”

“C.A.S.E. is committed to ensuring children from foster care and adoptive backgrounds have the support they need to grow into productive adults, and their success is evident in the stories of the teens and families who are here with us today,” said
Congressman Van Hollen.  “C.A.S.E. has served hundreds of families in our community and all across Maryland, and I’m proud to join Senator Cardin here today to honor their important work.”

C.A.S.E. is a non-profit organization with more than a decade of experience in providing support services to foster and adoptive families.
Services include pre- and post-adoption counseling, individual and group therapy, crisis intervention and training and workshops for professionals, families and educators.
Currently the Burtonsville facility provides service to more than 1,300 families, and the new Frederick office services approximately 50 families.
