Shearer

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) will attend a special White House ceremony tomorrow morning to honor Marylander and 2011 National Teacher of the Year Michelle Shearer.  Ms. Shearer has taught for 14 years in the Maryland public school system.  She currently teaches AP Chemistry at Urbana High School in Frederick County, and previously taught at the Maryland School for the Deaf.  She earned her B.A. in Chemistry from Princeton University and her M.S. in Deaf Education from McDaniel College.

I am incredibly proud to congratulate Michelle Shearer on being named National Teacher of the Year.  She is an exemplary educator who demonstrates a passion for teaching and an unwavering commitment to her students’ success.  She sets the bar high, and her students consistently deliver in the classroom thanks to her example.  Because of Michelle’s efforts and those of hundreds of teachers like her across our state, Maryland’s schools are continually at the top of national rankings.   Michelle should serve as an inspiration for teachers everywhere as we continue working to improve the state of education in America.”
