WESTMINSTER – From the recession to national security to protecting and restoring our environment,
U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD) today told McDaniel College students at a Town Hall meeting that “our nation is at a crossroads and the next Administration and Congress must work together to find solutions to the serious challenges facing our nation.”

Senator Cardin, a member of the Senate Budget, Environment and Public Works, Foreign Relations, Judiciary, and Small Business committees, told the students that it was time for all Americans to get involved and to take seriously the many issues facing our nation.
 

 During his talk, he told the students:
 

“The next Administration and Congress must provide the leadership that is necessary to move our nation forward so we can lessen the effects of the national and global recession and reduce our dependence on foreign energy by developing renewable and alternative energy sources.
  We need to take action now that will significantly reduce the build up of greenhouse gases so we can lessen the rate of climate change.”

Senator Cardin, who spent 20 years in the U.S. House of Representatives and has been in the Senate since January 2007, also stressed the need for Congress to become less partisan and so it can work to solve our nation’s problems.

“The key is leadership and a vision.
  The next Administration and Congress must have a vision that can rally our nation and provide the leadership we need to deal with these issues.
  The key is to build a partnership that will enable us to solve the many serious problems facing our nation.”

He added:
  “The days of inaction and delay must be behind us.
  The issues are too grave to allow meaningful action to dissolve into partisanship.”
