Cardin Statement on Yom HaShoah 2018

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council and Special Representative on Anti-Semitism, Racism, and Intolerance for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly, released the following statement Monday in observance of Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day:

“On this day, around the world, communities gather to commemorate the Holocaust by honoring the victims and the survivors. Yom HaShoah is a time to reflect and remember the genocide of the Jewish people by Hitler and the Nazi’s. We must never forget the atrocities that occurred so that we can ensure that they will never happen again. As we witness present-day increases in nationalism and anti-Semitism, the United States must stand strong against growing anger and animosity. We must remind ourselves of the mayhem that can occur when hatred and discord prevails –when fear is allowed to fester into division. It has been more than 70 years since the horrors of the Holocaust, and as the number of living survivors dwindles, we must keep their memories and the memory of the victims of the Holocaust alive. I join in commemorating the victims, remembering the heroes, and honoring the survivors, as I pledge to speak out against future violence to ensure that ‘Never Again’ continues to be true.”
