Cardin Statement on Yellen Confirmation

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), incoming Chair of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee and a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee, issued the following remarks after the Senate approved the nomination of Janet Yellen to be U.S. Secretary of the Treasury by a vote of 84-15.

“There is no one more qualified to tackle the challenges facing our economy at this time than Janet Yellen, which is why I supported her confirmation to be the next Treasury Secretary. When I met with her, and during her hearing in front of the Senate Finance Committee, among the many issues we discussed were how we can work together to ensure economic opportunity is available to all, how we can rescue small businesses from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and how best to solve the retirement security shortfalls facing Americans today. I look forward to working with Secretary Yellen to take these tasks head on.”
