BALTIMORE – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), the senior member of the Maryland congressional delegation, today released the following statement on the passing of his colleague and friend, Mayor Thomas D’Alesandro III.
“With the passing of ’Young Tommy’ D’Alesandro, I have lost a trusted, long-time friend and advisor. His approach to public service was pioneering, and his commitment to standing up for the people of Baltimore did not waver – even though he led the city during some of the most trying times in its history. He was a creative problem-solver, a leader who understood how to put people over politics, and the very definition of dedication. I will miss him greatly and wish his family, friends and loved ones speed in healing. My prayers will be with them as they grieve the loss of this true Baltimorean.”
