CARDIN STATEMENT ON SENATOR TED KENNEDY

Washington
, DC

U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin

(D-MD) released the following statement upon news that Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor:

“I join the nation in sending my well wishes to my colleague, Senator Ted Kennedy. He and his family are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

“Senator Kennedy is a national leader, patriot and the definition of a public servant.  He and his family have endured tremendous loss and hardship over the years, but I have no doubt that he will fight this battle with his usual grace, good humor and courage.

“Senator Kennedy is a pillar of the U.S. Senate and has been one of its most effective members for nearly five decades. I have been privileged to serve with him on the Judiciary Committee since I arrived in the Senate last year. He has been a mentor to me on civil rights and human rights issues, sharing his personal perspectives and intimate knowledge of the issues. Senator Kennedy has led our nation in its struggle to provide equal opportunity to all.

“I look forward to his return to the Senate.”
