WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), the second-ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement in response to President Joe Biden nominating Jacob “Jack” Lew to be the next U.S. Ambassador to Israel.
“The relationship between the United States and Israel is foundational, based on strong democratic values. Such a strong bond requires a strong ambassador who carries with him (or her) the knowledge, experience and gravitas to match the moment. My friend Jack Lew is an excellent choice for this nomination. He brings with him strong ties to the Biden-Harris administration, familiarity with the wide array of regional and global issues facing Israel, and a commitment to a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians. I look forward to his confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the opportunity to explore the strong ties and opportunities that connect our two nations.”
