Cardin Statement on Marylander and Midshipman Killed in Amtrak Derailment

WASHINGTON –U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.),  member of the United States Naval Academy Board Of Visitors issued the following after news that the derailment of Amtrak Northeast Regional Train 188 on Tuesday night had claimed the life of Marylander Bob Gildersleeve Jr. and Naval Academy Midshipman 3rd Class Justin Zemser:

“Tuesday night’s derailment of Amtrak Regional Train 188 was national tragedy. The loss of Mr. Gildersleeve and Midshipman Justin Zemser further underscores the costly human toll of this accident and the need to take all necessary precautions to prevent it from happening again. The Northeast Regional is very a heavily traveled line, anyone of us could have been on that train. My thoughts and prayers are with the Gildersleeve and Zemser families as well as all the families impacted by the horrible incident.”
