CARDIN STATEMENT ON JERUSALEM BOMBING

Washington, DC –
U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement in response to the bombing at Jerusalem’s main bus station:

“I am deeply saddened and outraged by the terrorist bombing of a bus in Jerusalem, the first terrorist attack inside of Israel in four years.  The willful targeting of civilians and senseless loss of life is an affront to human decency and should not be tolerated by the international community.  My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families of those affected by all attacks against the people of Israel. The extremists responsible for this act must be brought to justice.

“This act of violence only serves to underscore the common threat both our nations face.  Israel is America’s closest and most reliable ally in the Middle East and we continue to work together to fight terrorism and extremist violence.   Israel has a right and a responsibility to defend itself and its people against all security threats and cannot tolerate attacks against its citizens.  It is imperative that we stand with the people of Israel and do all in our power to protect our shared values and national bonds.”
