BALTIMORE – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) issued the following statement in response to an explosion at an apartment complex in Silver Spring, Md., that caused at least two fatalities, multiple casualties and the displacement of over a hundred residents.
“My heart goes out to the families who have been impacted by this horrible tragedy in Montgomery County. While there is still much we do not know at this time, we do know that the needs of those displaced by the explosion will be great. I thank our first responders and medical professionals for their ongoing efforts to save lives. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has begun to investigate the cause of the explosion and will continue to support state and local efforts, as needed. As we move forward, my office will be exploring ways to connect displaced families with the federal, state and local resources they need to recover.”
