Cardin Recognizes Maryland Day

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) issued the following statement in recognition of Maryland Day.

“I would like to wish all Marylanders a Happy Maryland Day. Today in 1634, two ships commissioned by Lord Baltimore arrived at an island off the coast of what is now St. Mary’s County, so beginning our journey from fledgling settlement to the Old Line State. Some 270 years later, the Maryland State Board of Education designated March 25th as Maryland Day, a day ‘to be devoted to Maryland history.’ Thirteen years later, the General Assembly designated Maryland Day as a state holiday. I am proud of the legacy of my home State and the efforts Marylanders have made and continue to make to remember those who have come before us. I thank all of those who participated in Maryland Day ceremonies and congratulate the students who learned something new about our great State today. As a lifelong Marylander, I look back at our rich history with pride. I also look to the future with limitless optimism.”
