Cardin, Moran On Cuban Detention Of Alan Gross

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Jerry Moran (R-KS) expressed their disappointment surrounding the continued imprisonment of United States citizen Alan Gross. The joint statement follows a letter sent to Cuban President Raúl Castro by Senators Cardin and Moran in September 2012. The letter was signed by 44 members of the U.S. Senate, including Senators Cardin and Moran, and requested Mr. Gross’ release on humanitarian grounds.

“As the unjust imprisonment of American citizen Alan Gross nears its three year mark, we were hopeful that the Cuban government would soon announce its intention to grant Mr. Gross’ release,” said Senators Cardin and Moran. “Though we are deeply disappointed by Cuba’s failure to make such an indication today, our commitment to Alan’s cause is undiminished and we will continue to work to ensure his immediate and unconditional release.”
