WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-Md.) today praised the Senate Judiciary Committee’s vote to approve Judge Paul William Grimm to fill a vacancy on the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, Northern Division, located in Baltimore. Senators Cardin and Mikulski recommended Judge Grimm to President Obama for the position on the federal bench. The nomination of Judge Grimm, who currently serves as Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge for the District of Maryland, will now move to the Senate floor for a vote, which has not yet been scheduled.
“I commend the Judiciary Committee for its swift approval of the nomination of Judge Paul William Grimm to the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland,” said Senator Cardin. “As a Federal Magistrate Judge in Maryland for 15 years, Judge Grimm is a nationally recognized expert on cutting edge issues of law and technology. He also is a well-regarded legal scholar who has the respect of his colleagues and admiration of the Maryland legal community. I know he will make an outstanding jurist.”

Judge Grimm not only meets these standards, he exceeds them. Maryland deserves to have highly qualified judges who will uphold the law to provide equal justice for all, and we have that in Judge Grimm.”
If confirmed, Judge Grimm will occupy the seat currently held by Judge Benson E. Legg, who has advised the President of his intention to take senior status later this month.
JUDGE PAUL WILLIAM GRIMM
Judge Paul William Grimm currently serves as a United States Magistrate Judge for the District of Maryland, a position he has held since 1997. He received his juris doctorate magna cum laude from the University of New Mexico School Of Law, where he served in the United States Army Judge Advocate General Corps during law school recess, and upon graduation, joined the JAG as a Captain.
Judge Grimm has a proven record of experience on the court having spent 15 years as a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Baltimore, 6 of which he spent as Chief Magistrate and has served our country proudly for 20 years in the Judge Advocate General Corps. He has spent his entire legal career in the State of Maryland, having served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Baltimore County, Chief of Litigation at the Maryland Department of Licensing and Regulation, and in private practice.
