) today announced four Maryland military installations are on track to receive federal funding for intersections improvements that will greatly improve safety and access to military bases in Maryland and ease traffic congestion stemming from BRAC-related growth in the area.

) today announced four Maryland military installations are on track to receive federal funding for intersections improvements that will greatly improve safety and access to military bases in Maryland and ease traffic congestion stemming from BRAC-related growth in the area.
The funds are included in the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations bill, which was approved by a House-Senate Conference Committee as part of Congress’ Fiscal Year 2010 Consolidated Appropriations Bill.
“BRAC represents a real opportunity for Maryland, but it also comes at a cost to our state,” said
Senator Cardin, a member of the Senate Budget Committee. “This funding is important because it’s time for the for the federal government to provide Maryland with additional resources that are needed so it can meet the significant transportation and infrastructure obligations that come with the relocation of thousands and thousands of new BRAC employees.”

“My promises made to BRAC-impacted communities are promises kept,” said
Senator Mikulski, a member of the THUD Appropriations Subcommittee. “It’s my job to put money in the federal checkbook where there is a federal responsibility, but not enough funding. BRAC brings great opportunities, but it also brings great challenges. That’s why I’m fighting to make sure Maryland has what it needs to implement the BRAC decisions and meet the increased demands on our communities.”

The House-Senate Conference Committee Report includes funding for intersections at the following military installations:
- Fort George G. Meade in Anne Arundel County – $2.75 million
- Aberdeen Proving Ground in Harford County -$2.8 million
- National Naval Medical Center in Montgomery County – $4.4 million
- Andrews Air Force Base in Prince George’s County -$2.49 million
