Easton/Newnam Field Airport and Cambridge-Dorchester Airport awarded federal funds

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-Md.) today announced that Talbot and Dorchester Counties have been awarded $1,429,026 in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for infrastructure upgrades at the Easton/Newnam Field Airport and an environmental study at the Cambridge-Dorchester Airport.

“Ensuring safety and efficiency at the Cambridge-Dorchester Airport and Easton/Newnam Field are critically important to keeping and creating jobs on the Eastern Shore. These airports are important hubs for their communities, local businesses and visitors,” said Senator Cardin, a member of the Environmental and Public Works Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee.  “I am proud that we can deliver this federal funding to support Dorchester and Talbot Counties transportation infrastructure in a strategic way.”

“Our regional airports play a key role in maintaining Maryland’s robust economy,” said Senator Mikulski, Chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which funds DOT. “These funds in the federal checkbook will help support important infrastructure and safety enhancements today and prepare for future airport construction that is critical to keeping the Eastern Shore’s economy moving and Marylanders on the go.”

The Easton/Newnam Field Airport will receive a $1,249,026 grant to finish the final phase of construction to rehabilitate the terminal apron. The existing apron pavement has reached the end of its useful life.

The Cambridge-Dorchester Airport will receive a $180,000 grant to conduct an Environmental Assessment in order to evaluate environmental issues related to the proposed obstruction removal for the Runway 16 approach surfaces.
