WASHINGTON –
U.S. Senators Benjamin L. Cardin and
Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-MD) today announced that the Federalsburg Police Department will receive a grant of approximately $25,000 from Rural Development funds to purchase a new patrol car for the police department.
The Federalsburg area has a population of approximately 2,600 with a median income of $24,266. The Police Chief is currently using his own vehicle for work.
“Caroline County residents need to know that their police department has the resources to carry out its duties,” said
Senator Cardin.
“I am pleased that this grant will provide the police department with what I consider essential equipment for law enforcement. “
“As the pressures on our state and local law enforcement agencies increase, we must do what we can to protect our protectors with the resources they need. I am proud that this money will give Caroline County the federal investment it deserves,” said
Senator Mikulski. “I will continue to fight to make the Eastern Shore a priority in the federal checkbook.”
Last year, Federalsburg received a Rural Development loan of $456,000 to renovate a building for the new police department.
At that time, the police department had no holding cells and prisoners are restrained by chains hooked to walls.
