WASHINGTON —
U.S. Senators Benjamin L. Cardin and
Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-MD) announced today that the City of Frostburg has been awarded a $13,750 USDA Rural Development grant to help purchase a new police cruiser for the town. The “Mountain City” currently has 15 police officers and seven police vehicles.

“Frostburg operates a full-service police department and this grant will provide funds to help purchase essential equipment needed to protect area residents,” said
Senator Cardin.
  “I am a strong supporter of the Rural Development grant program because it provides smaller communities with the resources they need for public safety.”

“As the pressures on our state and local law enforcement agencies increase, we must do what we can to give our first responders the resources they need to do their job safer and smarter,” said
Senator Mikulski.  “I am proud that this money will be used to keep the streets of Frostburg safe, and I will continue to fight in the U.S. Senate for grants like these that support our communities.” 

Rural Development was created to help improve the economy and quality of life in rural America.
  Financial programs support essential public facilities and services such as water and sewer systems, housing, health clinics, emergency service facilities and electric and telephone service.
  The program also promotes economic development by supporting loans to businesses through banks and community-managed lending pools.
