Senators Benjamin L. Cardin and
Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-Md.) today announced the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded $210,000 to the Garrett County Agriculture Fair Inc. for the Garrett County Trade Show/Enterprise Center. The facility will support 20 new jobs and 80 existing businesses.- not just with words, but with deeds.”
“This funding will bring new jobs and new visitors to Garrett County. It will provide entertainment and economic development for the area for generations to come,” said Senator Mikulski. “I am proud to fight for an investment in Western Maryland communities
“I am pleased that this ARC grant will provide additional funding for this important economic development project in Garrett County,” said Senator Cardin. “This new facility will allow Garrett County to host larger exhibits and meetings, which will help businesses in the region.”
The Garrett County Trade Show/Enterprise Center will be a 30,000 square foot multi-purpose facility that will be able to accommodate 800 people. It will host a wide range of events, including trade shows, exhibits, educational and tourist activities. More than 80 local businesses will also display and sell local products in the center. In addition to ARC funds, local sources will provide $365,000.
The ARC is a federal-state partnership that works with the people of Appalachia to create opportunities for self-sustaining economic development and improved quality of life.
