CARDIN, MIKULSKI ANNOUNCE FUNDING FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, JOB CREATION IN WESTERN MARYLAND

WASHINGTON U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-Md.) today announced that the Tri-County Council for Western Maryland, Inc has received a $70,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) to establish an economic strategy to support investment and job creation in the region.

“This funding will allow the Tri-County Council to create a roadmap for economic prosperity and job growth in Western Maryland,” said Senator Cardin.  “This grant shows that the public and private sectors can work together to bring new jobs and economic development to Western Maryland.”

“This funding is a federal investment in jobs today and tomorrow in our Western Maryland communities,” Senator Mikulski said. “I’m so proud to fight for the funding that Maryland’s Western counties can use to continue to develop and grow.”

This EDA planning investment supports the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) in the region served by the Tri-County Council for Western Maryland, which comprises the counties of Allegany, Garrett, and Washington. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
