Senators Benjamin L. Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-Md.) today announced the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded
a $200,000 grant to the Garrett County Board of Commissioners to purchase equipment for the Career Technology Training Center (CTTC).

“Federal investments like this help keep Maryland’s workforce competitive even during tough economic times. High school graduates, community college students and adults seeking new skills will benefit greatly from the new Garrett County Career Technology Training Center, as will our entire community through higher quality jobs and opportunities,” said
Senator Cardin.

“This grant is about jobs, jobs, jobs,”
Senator Mikulski said. “It will help the Career Technology Training Center prepare Marylanders for jobs. It will help those already on the job stay competitive. Western Maryland can count on me to keep fighting for investments in its residents and its economy.”

The Garrett County Board of County Commissioners is developing the CTTC at the county’s Central Garrett Industrial Park in Accident, Maryland. The CTTC will provide career training in technology and trades skills to new high school graduates, community college students and adults looking to improve existing skills or gain new skills required for more challenging and rewarding employment opportunities. This funding will equip and furnish the welding shop, technology laboratory, classrooms and administrative space with computer and automation equipment as well as software and instructional materials

Local sources will provide $200,000 bringing total funding of the project to $400,000. The ARC is a federal-state partnership that works with the people of Appalachia to create opportunities for self-sustaining economic development and improved quality of life.
