Cumberland, MD – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD), a member of the Senate Finance and Small Business committees, toured HunterDouglas Window Fashions as part of his Made in Maryland Jobs Tour. Located in Cumberland, HunterDouglas manufactures high end, custom window fashions. They are the fourth largest employer in Cumberland with 860 employees.
“A true highlight of my Made in Maryland Job Tour, I wanted to visit HunterDouglas to learn what Washington could do to help not only make local manufacturing survive, but thrive. HunterDouglas is one of the star companies that are investing in our local communities and adding to the regional economic growth in Western Maryland, and across the entire state. HunterDouglas provides good jobs and quality products; it is our job in Congress to help expand Americans’ access to both.”
In addition to recently increasing its workforce, the Cumberland facility has announced plans to invest in capital investments. HunterDouglas has made the strategic decision to invest and grow in Allegany County as direct result of the county’s superb workforce and quality of life. Seventy percent of its workers reside in Maryland.
Senator Cardin’s visit to HunterDouglas came on the same day the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the economy had added 288,000 jobs in April and the unemployment rate had shrunk to the lowest level since September of 2008.
