WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, issued the following statement after the Senate approved the Taxpayers First Act (H.R.3151). The bill now heads to the president for his signature.
“I urge President Trump to sign this bill quickly. Modernizing and improving operations at the IRS will better help the IRS serve all taxpayers. It includes more than a dozen provisions from my bill with Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio), the Protecting Taxpayers Act. In particular, I am pleased with the provisions in this bill that will better serve low-income taxpayers, including codifying and increasing funding for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. This is an important win for the American taxpayer.”
