Cardin Lauds Confirmation Of Marylander Tom Perez As U.S. Labor Secretary

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) praised the Senate confirmation of Thomas “Tom” Perez today.  Perez is a former Secretary of Maryland’s Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, and a former advisor to Senator Edward Kennedy. He has been serving in the Obama Administration as Assistant Attorney General of the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice. He also previously was President of the Montgomery County Council.

“Tom Perez is a decent and hardworking public servant and I join all Marylanders in expressing our pride that he will be at the helm of one of our most important federal departments during this critical time in our nation’s economic recovery. Tom has a history of bringing labor and business together to solve tough problems. He is a solid professional who has long fought for the rights of all Americans. I know that Tom will bring to the Department of Labor his incredible determination to empower hard-working individuals who simply want a fair shot at the American Dream.”
