Cardin Statement on Deadline Extension for GSA to Report to Congress on FBI Headquarters Project

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), ranking member of the Environment and Public Works (EPW) Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee, released the following statement in response to the letter from U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), chairman of the Senate EPW Committee, and Senator Tom Carper (D-DE), ranking member of the EPW Committee, to General Services Administration (GSA) Public Building Service Commissioner Dan Matthews regarding the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) headquarters.

“I applaud Chairman Barrasso and Ranking Member Carper for giving GSA additional time to work with the FBI and OMB to develop a variety of viable procurement options that will allow the FBI to finally get the headquarters facilities it needs. I am heartened by reports that GSA, FBI and OMB actually are discussing how to deliver a fully consolidated facility for the FBI and I urge all parties to utilize the environmental impact and site work that GSA spent millions on during the earlier procurement process.”
