WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement on the situation in Gaza:

“I am outraged by today’s deadly attack on two Israeli soldiers and the reported kidnapping of a third, just hours into the internationally-brokered ceasefire. For an organization that says it stands for the Palestinian people, Hamas has taken every opportunity to undermine efforts to seek a peaceful resolution and provide humanitarian relief to innocent civilians in Gaza. As I’ve said before, there is no moral equivalence between a nation-state defending itself and a terrorist organization murdering civilians. I will continue to stand by our ally, the State of Israel, as it seeks to protect itself and speak out on behalf of the innocent populations in both Gaza and Israel who are needlessly suffering at the hands of Hamas.”
