STATEMENT BY U.S. SENATOR BENJAMIN L. CARDIN ON HAITIAN EARTHQUAKE

My thoughts and prayers are with the Haitian people and the tremendous loss of life that appears to have occurred in the wake of the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti.   According to news reports, little was spared in the capital of Port-au-Prince, including the loss of life of members of the U.N. Mission and other members of the international and humanitarian communities that were located in Haiti.

I join the President and my colleagues in Congress in closely monitoring the situation and I can assure the people of Haiti that the United States will provide the assistance and aid that is necessary to deal with this humanitarian crisis.
