Maryland to receive funds for converting buses to alternative fuels and hybrids
"From Ft. McHenry to Antietam to Assateague Island, Maryland and our region are blessed with many national treasures," said Senator Cardin, a member of the Environment and Public Works Committee. "Today's announcement is welcome news because it will allow us to move forward in putting the economic recovery funding to good use in maintaining our important national heritage while also generating jobs for Marylanders."
"The Recovery Act is about jobs, jobs, jobs," said Senator Mikulski, who is a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee. "Funds to restore Maryland's parks will create and sustain jobs. At the same time, it will enhance parks that commemorate and preserve Maryland's heritage and rich traditions."
The NPS projects will include six categories: construction, deferred maintenance, energy efficiency equipment replacement, abandoned mine safety projects, and road maintenance. The projects meet the criteria for the ARRA of addressing the highest need, generating the largest number of jobs and creating lasting value for the American people.
