Cardin Welcomes Caret as New University of Maryland System Chancellor

BALTIMORE – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) released the following statement in response to Robert Caret being named the new Chancellor of the University System of Maryland (USM).

“As an alum of the University System of Maryland, I can think of few others better suited for this position. Bob was the first in his family to attend college and truly understands the value of higher education. He has had a long and distinguished career in higher education administration, and I am glad he will continue that career leading the University System of Maryland,” said Senator Cardin.

“After 29 years in the University System of Maryland, including eight as the President of Towson University, Bob has a unique understanding of what must be done to improve an already stellar system. I share his vison of making higher education more affordable, and look forward to working with him to find innovative ways to do so.  Bob comes back to the University System of Maryland at a time of great change in our state. I know he will work closely with Governor-Elect Hogan and other Maryland lawmakers to ensure higher education remains a top priority.

“My wife Myrna and I join so many across the state in welcoming Bob Caret back to Maryland. Her past work with Bob on the Towson University Board of Visitors was a pleasure, and we look forward to a similarly positive working relationship in the years ahead.”
