Cardin, Van Hollen, Raskin, and Trone Announce over $484,000 for Construction and Repair of Low-Income Housing

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Representatives Jamie Raskin and David Trone (all D-Md.) announced $484,541 in federal funding for the Interfaith Housing Alliance in Frederick, Md. The funding, awarded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Mutual Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Grant program, will be used to assist low-income individuals build and repair their own homes in Carroll, Frederick, and Washington Counties. 

“These federal funds will  help non-profit organizations construct and repair homes for families struggling to make ends meet,” said the Members. “We applaud this investment – which highlights the great work done by the Interfaith Housing Alliance – and we will continue to fight to expand economic opportunity and housing security across Maryland.”

USDA’s Mutual Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Grant program awards funding to qualified organizations to help them carry out local self-help housing construction projects. Grant recipients supervise groups of very-low- and low-income individuals and families as they construct their own homes in rural areas.
