Cardin, Van Hollen Call for Truth, Justice One Year after Marylander Alex Villamayor’s Murder in Paraguay
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, and U.S. Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD-08) released the following statement Sunday to mark the one-year anniversary of the killing of Marylander Alex Villamayor in Paraguay:
"We solemnly recognize the one-year anniversary of the death of Alex Villamayor, a United States citizen from Maryland who was brutally murdered one year ago in Encarnación, Paraguay. We honor the life he led, the lives he impacted, and the joy he brought to his family and friends. One year later, his family continues their tireless fight for the truth and for justice. Although progress has been made on this case, we will continue to work with Paraguayan and U.S. officials to ensure transparency throughout the judicial process. We must continue to focus a spotlight on this tragedy until justice is served."
