Cardin, Van Hollen Announce $143,888 Grant for Bay Bridge Airport
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen (both D-Md.) today announced a $143,888 Department of Transportation (DOT) grant for the Bay Bridge Airport in Stevensville, Md. The funding will help repair lighting and approach surfaces on the runway.
“This funding enables necessary safety enhancements for a unique regional resource. The Bay Bridge Airport provides a key link for local communities and helps those who love the Chesapeake Bay more expediently reach their destinations, and, as such, is a hub for regional economic activity,” said Senator Cardin. “I will continue working to ensure that the Bay Bridge Airport has what it needs to continue secure and efficient operations.”
“Regional airports serve as an important resource to communities in our state and are vital to maintaining a strong economy – we must ensure their safety,” said Senator Van Hollen. “I’m committed to making sure Maryland has the funding it needs to keep all of our airports – both large and small – safe and accessible to our residents.”
This DOT grant will be awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program. The program funds various types of airport infrastructure projects, including runways, taxiways, and airport signage, lighting, and markings which helps to create thousands of jobs.
