CARDIN STATEMENT ON THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS IN LIBYA

Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Chairman of the International Development Subcommittee, released the following statement regarding current developments in Libya.

"The United States already has made strong commitments across the Middle East, so now our allies and partners must step up to work with us to support the people of Libya, as they did with yesterday's 10-0 Security Council vote to authorize a no-fly zone and potential military action. Any actions taken must be done in conjunction with the international community, as the President has firmly laid out today. I am encouraged to see that pro-Qaddafi forces have, for now, declared a cease fire in response and I am hopeful for a sustainable and non-violent solution to this situation and for the people of Libya."
