Cardin Says Biden Immigration Plan will Prioritize Fairness, Human Dignity and Due Process

WASHINGTON –  U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) issued the following statement in response to President Joe Biden’s Day One immigration actions that included reversing the “Muslim Ban;” terminating border wall construction; extending protections for Liberian immigrants; preserving and protecting the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program; revoking the Trump administration’s harsh immigration enforcement policies; and issuing a 100-day pause on deportations.

“President Biden’s Day One actions demonstrate a clear commitment to not just righting the egregious wrongs of the Trump era, but to building a new immigration system that prioritizes fairness, human dignity and due process. In addition to a number of important executive and agency actions, the transmission of a comprehensive immigration reform proposal to Congress gives me hope that we can finally pass the reforms that are so long overdue. Among many other important priorities, I am encouraged by the inclusion of a pathway to citizenship for TPS holders among other long-time residents, which I have long championed.”
