CARDIN PRAISES OFFICIAL ENACTMENT OF ADVANCED FUNDING FOR VETERAN HEALTH CARE
Washington, DC - Shortly after the President signed into law the Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act today, U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD), called the legislation "one of the most important tools available to support the health and welfare of our veterans."
"The concept is simple: advance the budget for the Department of Veterans Affairs one year so essential medical services for our veterans are not put in jeopardy on an annual basis when Congress fails to pass an appropriations bill before the start of a given fiscal year. The bill signed into law by the President today will have a profound impact on the quality of care we provide our veterans by providing inherent stability and predictability to funding for VA medical programs and facilities.
"Our servicemen and women as well as their families make enormous sacrifices for our freedom. In return, Congress has an obligation to invest the money and create the programs necessary to provide quality, comprehensive health care services, mental health counseling, disability compensation, pay increases, better education benefits and more. Our obligation extends to providing those critical funds in a timely manner."
