CARDIN , MIKULSKI PRAISE OBAMA NOMINEE GRIMM FOR MARYLAND DISTRICT COURT SEAT
Senators Recommended Judge Grimm for Federal Bench to President Obama
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Barbara A. Mikulski and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) today praised President Obama’s nomination of U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul William Grimm to fill a vacancy on the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, Northern Division, located in Baltimore.
Senator Cardin said: “Judge Grimm is a nationally recognized expert on cutting edge issues of law and technology. He has written numerous authoritative opinions, books and articles on the subjects of evidence, civil procedure, and trial advocacy. He also continues to inspire the next generation of lawyers by teaching classes at our two law schools in Maryland. I am confident that Judge Grimm will serve the people of Maryland very well on the United States District Court.”
“I was proud to recommend Judge Paul Grimm to President Obama and am so pleased that he has been nominated to the United States District Court of Maryland,” Senator Mikulski said. “When I consider nominees for the federal bench, I have four criteria: absolute integrity, judicial competence and temperament; a commitment to core constitutional principles, and a history of civic engagement in Maryland. Judge Grimm not only meets these standards, he exceeds them. Maryland deserves to have highly qualified judges who will uphold the law to provide equal justice for all, and we have that in Judge Grimm.”
If confirmed, Judge Grimm will occupy the seat currently held by Judge Benson E. Legg, who has advised the President of his intention to take senior status in June 2012.
