Cardin, Mikulski Announce $350,000 in Federal Funding For Easton Airport

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-Md.) today announced that the County Council of Talbot County has been awarded a $350,000 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to study the environmental impacts of the proposed Runway 04/22 extension and tree obstruction removal projects at Easton/Newman Field Airport.

“The Easton Airport is an important gateway to commerce and travel on the Eastern Shore,” said Senator Cardin, a senior member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. “The continued growth of the airfield is critically important to creating jobs in the area. This federal grant will ensure that the airport can grow in a responsible and sustainable fashion.”

“Our regional airports play a key role in maintaining Maryland’s robust economy,” said Senator Mikulski, Vice Chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which funds DOT. “These funds in the federal checkbook mean improvements to the Easton/Newman Field Airport will be done in a safe and sustainable way while keeping Marylanders on the go.”

The proposed extension of Runway 04/22 and tree removal are part of the Airport Layout Plan and in the airport’s five-year Capital Improvement Plan. Removing potential obstructions is necessary to bring the airport into compliance with current FAA regulations.
