Cardin “Made In Maryland” Tour Illuminates Growth Of Manufacturing In Maryland

Maryland Company has moved 100 jobs from China

Glen Burnie, MD - U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD), a member of the Senate Finance and Small Business committees, toured the Chesapeake Bay Candle Company in Glen Burnie today as part of his “Made in Maryland” tour of companies that are supporting quality jobs for Marylanders. The Chesapeake Bay Candle Company was founded in 1994 by husband and wife David Wang and Mei Xu, in their basement. After years of hard work, Chesapeake Bay Candle went on to establish partnerships with America’s most renowned retailers including Target, Kohl’s, Bed Bath & Beyond and Hallmark, and was twice recognized by Inc. Magazine as one of America's fastest growing privately owned companies. Headquartered in Rockville, The Chesapeake Candle Company opened their state-of-the-art Glen Burnie factory in 2011, re-shoring 100 jobs.

“We are making things again in the USA, and what is ‘Made in Maryland’ is the very best in the world. Our job in Washington should be to help make more success stories like The Chesapeake Bay Candle Company possible,” said Senator Cardin. “This company went from humble beginnings in a basement, to actually bringing jobs back from China. Small businesses that grow into bigger business are what we strive for in America. When American manufacturing succeeds, we all do.”

“Mei and I came to this country very young with nothing but the American Dream in mind. The United States and the beautiful state of Maryland have offered us many incredible opportunities. We are very fortunate and feel thankful for everything we have received. Now we want to do everything we can to pay back this community, the state and this country,” said founder David Wang.

The Glen Burnie factory is their first domestic manufacturing facility, and produces an extensive range of filled vessel goods through standardized, automated production processes. Equipped with a state-of-the art research and development center, as well as burn testing and fragrance evaluation labs, the Glen Burnie location also houses an impressive warehouse and operates a distribution center within its 117,200 square feet of space.
