CARDIN HOLDS ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION ABOUT JOBS AT FREDERICK WORKFORCE CENTER

FREDERICK, MD – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) today held a roundtable discussion with job seekers and employers at the Frederick Workforce Services Center (FCWS).  The Frederick Workforce Services Center is a one-stop career center that links businesses looking for employees with residents seeking employment or career opportunities.  The FCWS also utilizes grant funding to provide occupational training in high-demand industries to help alleviate critical skills shortages in the current and future labor market.

“The key to our economic recovery is getting people back to work, and the Frederick Workforce Services Center has an outstanding program to help match high-skilled individuals who have been affected by these difficult economic times with employment opportunities,” said Senator Cardin. “I am impressed by the people who are here today because they have the talent and skills that many employers are seeking.”

Each month, 300 to 500 new clients visit the FCWS.  The Center provides classes to teach the skills needed to get many individuals back to work.  The Center reports a 90 percent re-employment success rate for clients who use their services. The FCWS exceeds state and federal Workforce Investment Act standards for their services.

Frederick County is among the five counties in Maryland with the lowest unemployment rate.  In November 2011, the unemployment rate for Frederick County was 5.3 percent, down from 6.7 percent in July 2011. Maryland’s unemployment rate for November 2011 was 6.4 percent, down from 7.3 percent in 2010.
