Cardin, Cummings and Sarbanes Tour Baltimore ‘Help for Homeowners’ Event
BALTIMORE – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) today joined Rep. Elijah Cummings (Md.-7) and Rep. John Sarbanes (Md.-3) for the “Help for Homeowners” event at the Baltimore Convention Center. The event brought together several hundred homeowners having difficulty making their mortgage payments with mortgage servicers, housing counselors, and representatives from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
“Foreclosure is an all-too-real prospect for many Marylanders, and we’ve got to do everything we can to help keep them from losing their homes,” said Senator Cardin. “Attending an event like this is one way that people can identify options available to avoid foreclosure and set themselves on a future path toward being able to keep up with their mortgages.
“It is often hard to admit that we need help, so it really takes some courage for homeowners to come here and ask for it,” Senator Cardin noted. “I’m proud of those people who can set aside their apprehensions and seek assistance.
“There are few things as important to our daily and family lives as the roofs over our heads,” Senator Cardin said. “I am grateful to the U.S. Treasury and many others who are coming together to help keep Marylanders in their homes.”
